The 3rd International Portugal-USA Summer Course in Cancer Research took place from the 11th to May 17th 2026 at the Vila Galé Ampalius Hotel in Vilamoura and the Grand Auditorium of the University of Algarve’s Gambelas Campus. Held as part of the USA-PT Initiative against Cancer (UPIC), the Summer Course brought together PhD students, early-career researchers and leading experts, providing a week of learning, knowledge exchange and scientific collaboration.
The programme explored some of the most up-to-date topics in cancer biology, including the tumour microenvironment, therapy resistance, cellular plasticity, epigenetics and cancer metabolism.
The organisers consider this third edition to have been highly successful, highlighting the programme’s outstanding scientific quality, the strong engagement of participants and the strengthening of links between international institutions.
Once again, the Summer Course established itself as a leading platform for advanced training, knowledge exchange and the development of new collaborative opportunities, contributing to progress in cancer research and to the development of the next generation of researchers.

O curso decorreu entre os dias 11 e 17 de maio de 2026, no Hotel Vila Galé Ampalius, em Vilamoura, e no Grande Auditório do Campus de Gambelas da Universidade do Algarve. Integrada na iniciativa USA-PT Initiative against Cancer (UPIC), o Summer Course reuniu estudantes de doutoramento, investigadores em início de carreira e especialistas de renome, proporcionando uma semana de aprendizagem, partilha de conhecimento e intercâmbio científico.
O programa abordou algumas das áreas mais atuais da biologia do cancro, como o microambiente tumoral, a resistência às terapêuticas, a plasticidade celular, a epigenética e o metabolismo do cancro.
A organização faz um balanço muito positivo desta terceira edição, destacando a elevada qualidade científica do programa, o forte envolvimento dos participantes e o reforço das ligações entre instituições internacionais.
Mais uma vez, o Summer Course afirmou-se como um espaço privilegiado para a formação avançada, o intercâmbio de conhecimento e a criação de novas oportunidades de colaboração, contribuindo para o desenvolvimento da investigação oncológica e para a capacitação da próxima geração de investigadores.
