I Algarve Sports Medicine Conference

The 1st edition of the Algarve Sports Medicine Days is scheduled for the 30th of June and the 1st of July, at the Hotel Dom Pedro in Vilamoura.

Various topics will be addressed, from young athletes, high competition, women’s sport, among others, through “interdisciplinary and multiprofessional perspectives, such as practical and dynamic workshops”, thus counting on “a scientific commission of excellence, from north to south from the country.”

This will be an opportunity to update “the latest evidence in Sports Medicine, in a region that aims to bring together leading national names in this area and where physical activity and sport play a fundamental role.”

The posters accepted by the Scientific Committee will be presented in electronic format (ePoster), and the abstract must not exceed 3500 characters.

The deadline for abstract submission is May 30, 2023 (results will be disclosed by June 26), and they should be sent via email to the address submissoesjornadasmdalgarve@gmail.com. Abstracts submitted after the specified date (2.1) will not be presented.

Upon acceptance by the Scientific Committee, guidelines for creating the ePoster will be sent to the first author (Content organization structure in Annex 1).

If images/videos are used where patients can be identified, the author must provide written and signed authorization from the patient or their legal representative.

Declaration of conflicts of interest and external funding: In case of a potential conflict of interest related to the presented subject, it must be declared at the beginning of the poster, along with the source of external funding, if any.

At the conference venue, a designated area for ePoster viewing will be set up on vertical monitors.

There will be no oral presentation of the ePoster during the conference.

The ePosters will be published on the Jornadas website, creating a virtual library.

It is mandatory to submit the poster in PPT format (PowerPoint® presentation), A4 size in vertical position, not exceeding 500MB (for photos and videos), and a maximum of 3 pages. The poster should include the same sections mentioned in the abstract. Varying composition, background, and inclusion of graphics, figures, photographs, etc., are allowed. A minimum font size of 16 is recommended.

The ePoster may contain images with a minimum resolution of 600ppp. Compliance with copyright for images/videos is the participant's responsibility. Videos with technical specifications (MP4 or H.264 format, minimum resolution of 1152x864 for 4:3 format or 1280x720 for 16:9 format) can be added. The total file size should not exceed 500 MB. If desired, the author may include a QR code redirecting to an ultrasound-guided intervention video or its results.

EVALUATION OF ABSTRACTS BY THE SCIENTIFIC COMMITTEE

The Scientific Committee will evaluate abstracts within the specified deadline.

Members of the scientific committee cannot be authors of submitted works or have contributed to their realization.

Abstracts must be submitted containing a version without authors and a version with authors.

Abstracts will be checked for compliance with submission rules. Non-compliant works will be rejected and not reviewed.

Each abstract will be evaluated by two independent reviewers, members of the scientific committee. In case of disagreement on acceptance or rejection, a third reviewer will assess the abstract.

Posters with the highest scores will be eligible for awards.

The decision of the scientific committee is final.

Annex 1. Content structure:

Research Study Abstracts will be structured into five sections:

Objectives: Clearly and precisely identify the study's objective. If there is more than one objective, the main objective will be indicated.

Design: Type of study. Reference population. Duration period.

Material and Methods: Study population, selection criteria, sample size, variables, and measurement methods. Statistical analysis.

Results: Provide the main results of the work, derived from the objectives and methodology used, with mention of confidence intervals and statistical significance level, when appropriate. Avoid including irrelevant data and comments and interpretation of the data. It is not valid to use phrases like "... the results will be presented ..." or "... the results will be discussed ...," etc., without presenting the results.

Conclusions: Directly result from the information in the Results section. Highlight their importance in clinical practice in Sports Medicine. Avoid repeating already presented information.

Bibliography: 2 to 5 references.

Clinical Case Abstracts will be structured into three sections:

Introduction: Briefly provide only the necessary information for the reader to understand the following text.

Clinical Observation: Description of the case or cases, symptoms, physical examination, complementary tests, diagnosis, treatment, evolution, and prognosis.

Conclusions: Directly result from the information stated in the previous sections. Highlight the case's interest in clinical practice in Sports Medicine. Avoid repeating already presented information.

Bibliography: 2 to 5 references.
